He was an insufferable asshole most of the time. But it became clear pretty early on that this book and I would not be the best of friends. I've seen a lot of reviews on here saying he wasn't treating either Angus or Brandy fairly, and that is true. Morris YA Debut Award nominee Carrie Mesrobian, Cut Both Ways is an unflinching look at a high school senior who must come to terms with his attraction to both his girlfriend and his male best friend. The novel primarily deals with and focuses on Will's home life, specifically the state of his parent's relationship after their divorce, and while interesting at first, it soon turns to the melodramatic and overly angsty side of things and I found myself skimming entire sections because a lot of drama just gets repeated.

Is it completely crazy that he'd do it again?
There's no other way to say it - well, there is, but I'm gonna try to keep the cursing and swearing down to a minimum in case there are children around. Wait, what was the book about again. Open endings can work, but this one does not. After I finished the book, I went onto Goodreads and raged a whole bunch and swore a lot about how I feel about homophobia and biphobia in relation to parents. And not a problem for me, but a warning to others: I was Here dealt with suicide, grieving, and self-doubt.
It feels like you're reading the same argument over and over again, or the same proclamation of how much his father drinks, yes it's sad, but the author fails to engage us in an interesting way and it feels like a background story that gets given way to much page time. Either way, I'm left so disappointed because Cut Both Ways could have pushed further and really thrust Will into the thick of the melee Because, of course, Will is so horny that he has to have it whenever nature pounds on the door like it's the po-po, so hurried sex outdoors without a condom sounds great.
I slowly but surely became irritated with Will and by the end I was probably one rung down from completely disliking him.
I wanted to like this book, I really did. The book had a million things it tried to accomplish which worked horribly. This entire book, Will fluctuates the two and never tells his girlfriend about the cheating. Cu are no …more I think this book satisfies a different kind of need.
Thoughts and opinions of guest posters do not represent those of TLT. If that's not your thing don't read it. It works fine for me, though, view spoiler [because we're left with enough clues that Will's future isn't that bleak. To ask other readers questions about Cut Both Waysplease sign up.
But this is the book ctu a boy who is confused, but instead of trying to really work it out, he keeps screwing around on his girlfriend with his best friend and vice versa.
Book Review: Cut Both Ways by Carrie Mesrobian
And I just feel like Cut Both Ways is giving out the completely wrong message about what being bisexual actually means. I wanted to say I liked the characters because part of me did but that is my own terrible judgment.
Seriously, what was the point of this book? It took Will Mestobian seventeen years to have his first kiss.
Book Review: Cut Both Ways by Carrie Mesrobian — @TLT16 Teen Librarian Toolbox
Will Caynes never has been good with girls. And then I thought to myself: Poor Will - everything happens to him and he's simply defenseless to stop it. And I love that on top of that fact it included a plotline where the character is likely bisexual.
A choice reveals itself between Angus, a best friend who reveals his feelings, and a girlfriend Personally, I did not connect to Will nor this story. The author said that this was to give an example of bisexual erasure which is a thing, by god is it a thing. So what is Mesrobina to do?
